A state of apathy?
3:12pm Tuesday 6th May 2008
Sir - It is a given of human nature, that we are rarely satisfied with what we have: politicians, the media, and ad-men are well aware. Nothing wrong with that, provided the alternatives are positive and constructive. But if the Daily Mail, which purports to represent middle-Englanders, is to be believed, then we are indeed a nation of paranoid whingers.

Bomber pilots deserve medals
3:10pm Tuesday 6th May 2008
Sir - Some readers will be aware that there is a campaign under way to secure the issue of campaign medals for those who served in Bomber Command between 1940 and victory in 1945.

Habeas Corpus was important
2:34pm Tuesday 29th April 2008
Sir - I could not help but comment on the editorial in the Witney Gazette last week, in its comment upon Gerry Stonhill's battle over smoking laws and the massive fine imposed upon him for allowing smoking in his pub.

Concert for seniors was a great success
2:32pm Tuesday 29th April 2008
Sir - Thank you, Rotary Club of Witney and ladies of Inner Wheel, for inviting the senior citizens to The Rotary Jill and David Stew Memorial Concert.

Keep our Church Green green
3:08pm Tuesday 22nd April 2008
Sir - The District Council shows support for more commerce on Church Green - what an affront to Witney!

It's time to get priorities right
3:06pm Tuesday 22nd April 2008
Sir - Time and time again, we hear that anti-social behaviour is the main concern for the police and WODC.

Road questions
3:09pm Tuesday 22nd April 2008
Sir - Having read the Options Report, the Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) Report, and the Traffic Modelling Forecast Report, issued by Oxfordshire County Council, these documents have been written, in my opinion, to show a bias to the Cogges Link Road when compared to the Shores Green option. Examples of bias in the papers, so far made available, are: (a) TAG report para 2.5.4 which states SG (Shores Green) would cause a slight adverse effect on . . . a relatively tranquil parcel of land' - tranquil, just yards from the A40?; (b) TAG report para 2.11.3: comments on the Local Plan Strategy are, again in my opinion, incorrect bearing in mind the comments of the Local Plan Inspector.
